Project Name: Library Air Conditioning Improvement

Project No : 016

Implementation Date : 2012-2013

Energy Conservation Measures :

Replaced old air box with high efficiency new air box, and added inverter control to MAU in order to improve air-conditioning system efficiency and decrease air box electricity usage. By utilizing natural air cooling, the inverter control greatly decrease air-conditioning system operation load and greatly decrease pump and chiller operation. Built monitoring system that automatically adjusts air box energy conservation management.

Improvement Measures :

1. Replace old air box in the Library B1 Reading Room and AV room with high efficiency new air box, and added inverter to MAU in order to improve air-conditioning efficiency and decrease air box electricity usage.

2. Added a set of HVAC, signal passes to the existing air-conditioning system control in the Office of General Affairs located on the 7F of the Administration Building, controlling the outside air that flows into the Reading Room and AV Room.

3. Add RS-485 wired controller on twenty air box located on the first through third floors of the Library. Signal passes to the existing air-conditioning control in the Office of General Affairs located on the 7F of the Administration Building. The air-conditioning control utilizes timing management to accurately control air box turn on and turn off times.

4. Strengthen chiller system energy-saving control. When chiller compressor completely stops, control will command cold water pump and cooling water pump to save pump electricity usage.

5. Added 4 temperature / humidity sensors at the B1 Reading Room and AV Room of the Library. The sensors automatically detects indoor temperature and humidity and sends the signals back to the existing air-conditioning system control Administration Building 7F Office of General Affairs. If the temperature or humidity exceeds the set range, the system will make signals and send texts notifying relevant administrative personnel.

6. Added six CO2 sensors and two fresh air blower at the B1 Reading Room and AV Room of the Library. The sensors automatically detects indoor CO2 concentration and sends signals to the existing air-conditioning system control at the Office of General Affairs 7F of the Administration Building. When CO2 concentration exceed the set range, the system automatically turns on the fresh air blower and MAU, carry out indoor air exchange function, allowing fresh air from outdoor to flow in.

Energy Saving Calculation :

Decrease carbon emission by 13.2 tons
