It is almost impossible to live without air-conditioner during summer in Taiwan. But with frequent use of air conditioning system, risks of ozone hole and global warming are also emerged. In order to solve these problems, Ho Tai Company, the agent of Daikin Company in Japan, donated 30 million NTD dollars to establish the Green Environment Control Testing Center that aims to improve air conditioning technique by increase energy effectivity and decrease damage to the planet at Taipei Tech.

Yang-Cheng Shih, professor from the Department of Energy and Refrigerating Air-Conditioning Engineering, notes that although nowadays we can reduce the damage to ozone layer caused by refrigerant technology, greenhouse gas is still an issue. In the future, we hope to raise efficiency and stay eco-friendly at the same time.

Leehter Yao, president of Taipei Tech, notes that Taipei Tech has the first Department of Energy and Refrigerating Air-Conditioning Engineering in Taiwan. By building the Green Environment Control Testing Center, we hope to provide experimental field and test report for air-conditioner manufacturing. In addition to above features, the Green Environment Control Testing Center can also increase students’ competitiveness by providing practice opportunities.

Ho Tai Company representative notes that air-conditioning includes not only cooling and heating, but also air interchanger, humidity control, electricity saving, air delivery, and noise reduction. It is our hope that the Green Environment Control Testing Center will provide testing service needed by industry and to cultivate talent with academia.
